On the weekend of the 29, 30 and 31 July, Darnall Primary School celebrated its 100th birthday. On the Friday night we had many past pupils, parents and staff attending this wonderful evening. Our speakers for the evening were Bongi Mwandla and Karen Tocknell (nee Hagemann), both past pupils.
On Saturday, the day was started with past pupils playing different matches where Nkwazi took on Tekwane. This was followed with the opening of “The Kingfisher”, the new kiosk on the Bald Ibis field, by Mr Nick Nel, former Chairman of the governing body. The painting of the Kingfisher was painted by Mrs Elsie Louis.
A viewing of the school and the “museum” in the library was made available for all the visitors. This was followed by a luncheon under the school awning. Our master of ceremonies was Barry Lane and our guest speakers were, Karen Tocknell and Glen Hagemann, Leanne Curry, Noel de St Pern and Flynn Dowell. The school choir sang the school song with Mr Nathaniel van Wyk.
On Sunday, a church service was held at Bethany Farm where it was conducted by Mrs Patsy Williams. It was well attended and was the end to a fabulous weekend. Thank you to Mrs Nettie de Ricquebourg and her committee for all their hard work and dedication towards this celebration.
